Seeing a Wild Tiger

yellow=interesting vocab, pink=sentence starters, speech=green and

Seeing a Wild Tiger

We were on a tour in North India in the state of Rajasthan. It was in the summer holidays and my Mum, my Dad and I were currently in a hotel in Ranthambore. The reason we came to Ranthambore was because we wanted to see a wild tiger in one of the safaris. I’ve heard that the safaris are very very fun and I was looking forward to the safari that we were about to do the next day.  My family all love tigers and the majestic animal is India’s national animal. Therefore, this tiger sighting was extra special. I was also quite nervous, this could be scary.

The next day, the old-fashioned jeep was ready in the morning. Briskly, I jumped in the front seat. My mother said that I have to wear warm clothes because of the chilly morning air. The guide said that the driver and he will try to find a tiger. Off we went into what seemed an unstable jeep. It rapidly joggled from left to right and it made me feel sick. The jungle made constant reassuring noises as the jeep ran its path. Despite the quick sudden movements of the jeep, I managed to see quite a lot. The couple behind us spotted a fast-flowing river. The guide said it leads to a water hole that then quieted down into an emerald coloured pool. Soon later we saw it. It was definitely a beautiful sight.

As we passed the water young spirited deer, my dad stopped to take some photos. Almost immediately, the guide began to explain about the Spotted Deer. He said that they stick together as a group and they are very common in Ranthambore. I watched the childish fawns as they jumped and ran around the jungle floor. They looked happy, and I wondered what it would be like to be a deer, happily running about, not caring about anything. I re-considered my opinion though because I was pretty sure those tigers are out to eat them. As I continued to watch the comical, frisky creatures they all leapt away in fright. Suddenly, we heard a loud powerful RRROOOAAAARRRR!! The guide managed to call another jeep with a walkie-talkie and our jeep took off with full speed ahead. While my dad held down his hat on his head he spluttered “We are going to see a tiger!”

As the jeep sped on I felt my stomach come right up to my throat. The tractor-like car abruptly came to a halt. Miniature birds fly off into the distance. I sense that the Tiger is nearby. Suddenly a majestic creature advanced from a vast section of long grass. Its stripes were camouflaged in the golden-coloured meadow, especially because of the animal’s orange and black complexion. Steadily, the female tiger cautiously emerged from it’s hidden hideout. All the other people in the jeeps surrounding us clicked photos on their mammoth-sized, professionalised cameras. My dad and mum also press the camera buttons, clicking it rapidly ( it seemed like 1 million times a second!!). I just stare. Here I was looking right at India’s national animal. What a sight!!

I realized that the Tiger was scanning its fans for an opening. I thought it was afraid. It then proceeded back into the yellow grass, even though it wanted to come out. We stayed there for about 5 more minutes despite the known information that the tiger wasn’t coming out. My dad requested the driver to go back to the hotel. On the way back, my mum explained what the tiger’s name was, “Did you notice how the tiger’s forehead had an arrow, yes? Well, because of this mark her name is Arrowhead.” She said. After I we reach my dad says, “did you like it Anika?” he asked. “ Like it? No…… I loved it!!” I replied.

This trip was absolutely one of my favourites. The moment when I actually saw the Tiger will be cherished for a long, long time. I am definitely coming here next summer holidays!! :)

Lockdown exercise fun - Writing Can-do

Lockdown Exercise fun

This is a lockdown exercise routine to continue to be fit and healthy. This circuit can be done with your favourite music - preferably, upbeat hip-hop songs. Let's give the routine a go!!

To start off, you need to stretch so you don’t get stitches and cramps.

Warm-up - 5 minutes

  • To stretch we need to sit down, stretch our legs and touch our toes. Make sure you stretch as far as possible to feel it in your body. Hold the stretch as you breathe in and out 3 times.
  • Then we need to twist our wrists 10 times. You should feel a light click in your joints.
  • Now we are going to get our blood pumping by doing some arm circles. Starting with propelling your arms forwards then backwards, both arms moving at the same time the same pace.
  • To get our shoulders stretching, we need to pull your other arm far away from your body, towards the side. You should feel a pleasant stretch in your shoulder. Hold it for 10 counts. Do it again on the other arm.
  • After that, you need to move your head side to side. The stretch should be felt in your neck. Then move it up and down and look right to left.

Main Routines - 15 minutes

We have finished stretching and will now begin on the routines. You can have a quick sip of water if you want to.

  • First, you need to do 10 push-ups. This will strengthen your arms and make your muscles grow. Take it nice and slow as you will be able to feel it more.
  • Now you need to get up and do 30 small jumps to get your blood pumping even more. Make sure you go at a set speed. Otherwise, if you stop sudden;y you could get a stitch and they are not fun.
  • After that, do 15 burpees. Burpees are a mixture of jumping, a push-up and reaching to the sky. Make sure you do each one fully and neatly otherwise, you won’t really be getting any exercise.

Take a two-minute rest to regain your breath as burpees can be quite taxing. After two minutes is over, you are now ready to continue with your exercise. Have a drink of water and start off.

  • We will continue with some running. Running on the spot doesn’t involve you to move around, it makes you move your legs in a running motion on the spot. Try to continue for a few mins. Now try run around your entire house 5 times. If you can’t do that run up and down the corridor or the driveway. The entire step should take you about 5 min. This will make you huff and puff - don’t worry, it means your doing really well!! :).
  • Now let's do some squats. Squats help strengthen the thighs. Moving them up and down is quite a challenge. Can you do 20 without stopping for a break?
  • The next exercise is called a bicycle. Lie on your back with your hands under your head. Then you move your legs in a bicycle motion - like you are pedalling thin air.
  • After that the final exercise is sit-ups. Sit-ups are really tricky. You plant your feet into the ground firmly. Lie on your back but your legs still stay in the same place throughout the entire exercise. Then, placing your hands under your head you lift your upper body so you sit upright. Do these 10 times.

Cooldown - 5 minutes

To finish, we will do some light stretches to cool down. Take a big drink of water. Now just lie on your back and shake your body. This will relax you.

  • While taking deep breaths, slowly stand up and move your head around in circles.
  • Then roll your shoulders.
  • After that twist your ankles and your wrists.

Exercise isn’t always about just sweating it. Cooldowns are important too. You can have a good break by just focusing on your breathing. Take two minutes to just sit crossed-legged on the floor and take deep breaths. Breath in…..Breath out…..Breath in…...Breath out. What are you thinking of? Close your eyes and imagine a place full of peace and happiness. What are your thoughts? What are your feelings? What are you doing?

Well done you have finished the exercise routine!!

My Talking Teddy Invention

My Talking Teddy Invention

My talking Teddy invention is absolutely amazing. It can talk and reply to what you’re saying. This toy is safe and provides another friend for kids to play with and talk to. This toy also has the ability to teach kids different types of things that you can set on the Talking Teddy app. This app is connected to the Teddy and you can change the way it talks or make it teach children at any age level - you only need to click a button. Talking Teddy is definitely a toy worth buying.

Firstly, this toy can teach almost anything to children. You can set things on the Talking Teddy app that’s free!! But you need to have the Teddy to get the app. If children fall behind in their studies, Talking Teddy can teach them and parents don’t need to do anything. Talking Teddy also helps people be comforted. It helps kids continue to be social, even though they don’t have anybody to talk to. Having a Talking Teddy provides somebody for kids to talk to and is like a nice kind friend. Talking Teddy can also be a little firm to just keep kids in line so they know who’s in charge.

Talking Teddy is a simple mechanism. When you press a button on its cuddly back, it can turn him on and off. The way you can control it is that you need the app. No app then no Teddy. With this app, you can make Talking Teddy speak and teach or you can make him play with kids There are three important parts in Teddy. The inside, where the batteries and the actual mechanism is. The app that can control Talking Teddy and the body, which can play with and teach your child. These three parts are crucial to the toy. Without any one of them, the entire toy won’t run its path.

The Talking Teddy invention is an amazing toy. It can teach it can speak, and it can even provide a friend. Henceforth, every child should have this informative, kind, fun, Teddy. If you want one go to:

Trust me - You’ll love it!!

How Do Scissors Work

How do Scissors work
Scissors are used to cut things up. When you're cutting things, scissors help to keep the edges sharp and straight. It is an instrument used to cut different types of cloth and paper.

There are many different types of scissors. Some of which can only be used for one type of thing. For example, if you're using a dressmaker shear it is only good for cutting fabric or cloth. If you’re using embroidery scissors, it is easier to hold and is used if you do a lot of cutting. When you do a lot of cutting sometimes heavy scissors can cause cramps in your muscles, so embroidery scissors are made with a light handle and they are comfortable to hold.

Scissors are made with two blades - one on top of each other, that are screwed together. They are used by inserting your thumb and your finger. When you’re applying force to the two blades, the edges meet each other. The force that was used to press the blades together, makes the sharp blades cut through any thin material like paper or cloth. This is using a lever-action because you’re squeezing the handles to cut an object like fabric or paper.

Most people just use scissors without bothering how they really work. This piece of writing is written to teach people more about the simple mechanism of scissors.

Salt and Sugar experiment

2 min &
17 secs

I did an experiment with sugar and salt. First I got 4 cups out and put different water temperatures inside.  Then I added the salt into each one and recorded the time it took to dissolve. After that, I did the same for the sugar. I learnt the following things:

The temperature of the water affects the salt and sugar because if the water is hot the heat makes the solid dissolve faster than room temperature water. For example, the salt took 1 min & 10 secs to dissolve in the cold water but only took 23 secs to dissolve in hot water.

The size matters because if it the solid is smaller in size it takes less time to break down. For example, the salt took 23 secs in hot water to dissolve and the sugar took 50 secs in hot water to dissolve. This is because the sugar crystals are larger than the salt particles.

The amount of force can make the solid dissolve faster because when I stirred the salt 4 times it took lesser time to dissolve than the amount it took when I stirred it 6 times. For example, when you blend something the force of the sharp blade mixing it makes the solid break down way faster than just mixing it by hand. This is called physical change.
